7 Days- Mountain Kilimanjaro Climbing – Machame Route

Day 1: Arrive Moshi, Tanzania

Our representative will meet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport upon arrival and transfer you to your lodge. Then after comprehensive climb briefing. Overnight: Kaliwa Lodge.

Day 2: Start Trek to Machame Camp

After a hearty breakfast you’ll head to Machame gate. After administrative formalities and meeting with porters and guides, begin the walk to Machame camp. The walk is at a leisurely pace through natural forest. Trekkers will likely hear the many exotic birds in the canopy above, and many even see black & white colobus monkeys and Sykes monkeys as they hike along the forest floor. Savour a hot dinner.

Overnight: Machame Camp (10,000FT / 2,980M) Trekking time: 5-7 hours

Day 3: Machame Camp to Shira Cave Camp

Wake up early to a steaming cup of tea of coffee served in your tent, and then after breakfast, begin trekking up the steep track through a savannah of tall grasses, and trees of giant Heath and Erica. The clouds should clear for a beautiful view of the Western Breach and the breach wall which mark the summit; Uhuru Peak.

Overnight: Shira cave Camp (12,850FT / 3,890M) Trekking time: 4 – 5 hours

Day 4: Shira Cave Camp to Barranco Camp (Acclimatization day)

After breakfast proceed steadily upward over long ridgelines of high desert about 3 hours, and break for lunch at about 15,200 feet (4,600 M) as well as for acclimatization. In the afternoon, descend the steep track into the Great Barranco Valley.

Overnight: Barranco Camp (12,960FT. / 3930M) Trekking time: 6-7 hours

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp

Trek to Barafu Camp starting on “Breakfast wall” via Karanga Camp. The trail traversing up and down the slopes and valleys which have carved their way into the mountain’s southern face. Kibo’s glaciers loom above to your left. We will reach the Karanga Valley for a hot lunch, then

proceed to Barafu camp. Barafu campis set on a small, exposed flat area on a ridge, acting a base camp from which you will make your summit attempt tonight.

Overnight: Barafu Camp (15,180FT / 4,600M) Trekking time: 6-7 hours

Day 6: Barafu camp to Uhuru Peak / High (Millennium) Camp.

Dress up for a cold weather and pack very basic items in your pack that you will need on this particular day. After breakfast start trekking “pole pole” uphill on screen and rocks path to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro. After about 6 hours of walking, you will come to the edge of the crater; Stella Point, at 18,900ft (5,795M) on the crater rim is the end of the steep track. It takes about 45min to Uhuru Peak from Stella point on a less steep uphill. The trek to Uhuru peak from Stella point involves lots of sightseeing; huge glaciers on the left and deep smooth crater on your right. After great momentous at the summit descend down back to Barafu. Then to Millennium Camp

Overnight: Millennium camp (12,500FT. /3,810M)

Trekking time: Barafu Camp to Uhuru peak 6-8 hours / 4-5 hours to Millennium camp

Days 7: Complete Trek / Returning home

After a restful night’s sleep and after a heartily breakfast you will start to descend to the Mweka gate. Together, the crew sing local songs describing the folk lore around their Mystical Mountain and spiritual homeland. Reluctantly we say our goodbyes and board our vehicles that transport us to the airport for departure. This will be end of journey for those catching flight home.
